CD ROMS

Many of the CD ROMs mentioned here are German ones (hey, guys I am German after all, and I usually buy my software in Germany). If you know of any other interesting CD's feel free to contact me, I'm allways interested in expanding my emulator collection (rumor has it that Microsoft has published some arcade classics for Windows 95, anybody knows anything about that? Are they emulations? Didn't get any information in Germany). I own all CD's mentioned here (or I'm trying to get them). So most of the time I know what I write about, but keep in mind that this is all just my point of view...

NEW
Windows (95) 'Return of the Arcade' is NO emulator, only 2 of the four games are actually playable (DigDug and Pacman)...

    Williams Arcade Classics

    A CD ROM published by
GT Interactive. This is a great CD containing the following six classic Williams games:
These games are NO remakes. Digital Eclipse programmed an emulator for the Motorola 6809 chip. The original code is running. This compilation is just AWESOME. I hope there is more to come...
(In Germany it's distributed by CDV -'Ladenlokal', just thought I might mention it, 'cause I had some trouble getting it.)

BTW, programmed by Jeff Vavasour ( TRS 80, ZX 81 (TS 1000), Dragon (CoCo), Williams Arcade Classics ). NEW
There is a new version available for windows 95. It contains the old version (DOS) as well as the new one.

    Activision Action Packs

Well, the Atari Action Packs are interesting if you are still a fan of the game console. There can be found a couple of hundred ROMs for the Atari VCS 2600, which with some modification might work with the emulator provided. (Some of the more excentric modules don't work)
  • Activision's Atari 2600 Action Pack 1 (for Windows 95)
  • Activision's Atari 2600 Action Pack 2 (for Windows 95)
  • Activision's Atari 2600 Action Pack 3 (for Windows 95)
  • Activision's Commodore 64 15 Pack (for Windows 95)
  • The Activision's Commodore 64 15 Pack is the only 100% working C64-emulator for windows yet. A pitty nobody seems to know how other programs than the provided ones will work with it. Most games can be found at various ftp-sites. If you are a fan of the old classics of Activision you might want to get it anyway. It contains for example the only working copy of Portal that I know of. (That was actually the third time I purchased Portal, one for the Commodore 64, one for the PC, and now I've got it with this package! Activision, you owe me one for that...)

    Commordore C64 The Complete Collection

Also known as High Voltage CD. Soon a second one will be available... .
A huge amount of software from commodore soccer to pphammer... . Litteraly thousands of disks, games, utilities and demos. It's not cheap but it's not that dear either, in my opinion a MUST HAVE. For more information contact
    darren@talent.demon.co.uk.
A catalog of the CD is available at ftp.dhp.com/pub/c64/c64-cd, or try downloading it from here as High Voltage Catalog.
There is supposed to be a site where the CD is online available, but I never actually got through, so till I do no links will be supplied...
New! There it is, the site was temporarily unavailable, but its back online, its called Childhoods End, look at the cdrom directory...
Note, this site is not related to Darren in any way!

    C64CD-96

    NEW NEW NEW
Got that just from the newsgroups:
If you are interested try email to:gg@telebyte.nl. I downloaded the list, it looks very promising, but no information where to get it, or how much it'll cost is as yet available (it include "Java Jim", I had difficulties getting that again, it's not yet available at the big sites...).
It is supposed to cost (fasten your seatbelts) 55$ (US Dollar that is).
Isn't that a bit ... (you now what I mean)

Actually I bought it (being a collector and having (obiviously) to much money). It really contains a lot of software, it is definitly to be recommended. The only flaw (if you want to call it that) is the fact that all disks are in '*.zip' format. Which means that you can't use the images directly. (or is there a way I don't know of yet?) That was the only possible way to put so much stuff on a single CD. Quite a lot of programs are twice or more on it, but I can't blame anyone for not checking over 5000 disks... .
Another nice feature is, that they copied the disks with a programm especially written for the CD (well, probably the other way around...). You can copy all disks back to a C64 Disk without losing error information, the copy creates a sort of log file, which includes all the stuff missing by 'just' copying them. It's not handled in a 'standard' sort of way, but hey, you can use all of the over 5000 disks with your real C64... (I'll probably never copy one back, but it is a nice feature)...

    C64 Sensations

Looks like a PD/Shareware version of
Commordore C64 The Complete Collection... Advertised as a CD for Amiga, contains PC relevant material too. Ask at your local CD-supplier, or:
                 PDSOFT (CBM_1)
                 UNIT 2,
                 6-8 DURHAM ROAD,

                 ESSEX,
                 SS2 4LU, UK.

(thats all info that's in the booklet...)

    Brotkasten CD

I think there is a English version called Breadbox CD. Thousands of PD/Shareware disks, GEOS, Printshop...
Includes a patch that GEOS will run with
PC 64 (better than that graphical monster). A successor is planned... Ask at your local CD-supplier, or:

(thats all info that's in the booklet...)

    Emulatoren

Published by CD professional. IMHO not worth buying. Various emulators, all of them old versions. Big label it contains
Amiga emulator, but it's only a fake version. The author can't have looked at it at all. NO software for any of the emulators. It's total byte count doesn't reach 6MB (not including the setup program). Perhaps you are interested in CGA-Emulation? Than this is your CD, 4 versions are included!

    Speccy Sensations 2

First version no longer available. Advertised as a CD for
Amiga, contains PC relevant material too. I've got no clue where you might get it, ask at your local CD-supplier. (I think it is well worth it's money)

    DOSTREND Extra Heft 12

A CD of the German magazine DOSTREND. Contains various
Commodore 64 emulators. It contains all software that was published in a German magazine called INPUT 64 (53 disks in *.d64 format)
    (distributed by PEARL AGENCY)
WAIT! No, not all software, just the programs, they deleted the rest of the disks... (didn't really notice it before, thanks for the correction Paul).

    64'er

A CD published by MAGNA MEDIA. It contains all software ever published with their magazine 64'er (well over 400 disks in *.d64 format). Plus various other emulators.
WAIT! (again) No, not all software ever published, for one thing, they are still publishing, for another, some disks are missing or even corrupt.
Since Paul noticed it allready and send me a list, I might as well include it here:

PC Shareware Spiele-Hits (ASM SPECIAL 28)

Another CD of a German magazine, it contains various emulators, and some software for them. Nothing spectecular, it's not supposed to be an emulator cd, they had an article about emulators and included some for show...

    Atari 8-bit Software

I haven't got this one yet, I'm trying to get in contact with them... Here comes the information I've got so far:

    ABBUC c/o Wolfgang Burger
    Wieschenbeck 45
    D-4352 Herten, Germany
    phone: +49 02366/39623

ABBUC also has available a brand new CD-ROM that contains hundreds of megabytes
of free and shareware Atari 8-bit software. I highly recommend this CD as it
contains compilations of Atari 8-bit software from all over the world and
includes magazine disks. The CD can be purchased for $35 U.S. directly from:

    Ernest R. Schreurs
    Kempenlandstraat 8
    5211 VN Den Bosch
    The Netherlands

    Text exctracted from file: "xf33demo.txt"
    which is contained within the
XF Atari Emulator package, I hope they don't mind...
Information verified you can get the CD at both places, it costs 53 DM (Deutsch Mark) which includes postage and handling (I'll get it soon).

    8-Bit Heaven CD

This CD is not available yet, I only got info of it from certain newsgroups. Here is a posting about it:
                                  8-Bit Heaven CD
                                 =================
This is my second posting to the news about the 8-Bit Heaven CD. Since my

stuff that should be put on it. So the things that are on the CD now are :

    - ZX Spectrum stuff :
Around 1700 Games ( and utilities ) in Snapshot and Tape format. There is

hopefully i can realise it. Since last posting some new games were added.
There are ALL utilities and emulators added that i could find, for both,
Amiga and PC platform. Also added are pictures and maps from NVG archive
      ( hopefully noone would mind :) ).
There is a bonus ZX81 part inhere with all the emulators ( 2 to be exact :) )
and some games i found on the net ... If you have more of these please email
      me.

    - C64 stuff :

Around 1600 files , in Tape format and Disk Images, everything sorted with
a list for easy finding. Some new games were added since last posting.
Utility and Emulator section with everything i could find on the net added.
Also a section with all SIDPLAY songs added ( basically whole NemeSIDs
      collection ).

    - CPC stuff :

This section grew considerably ... it includes over 600 games now, with
emulators and utilities, working on the list, it will be finished soon ...

The lists of all sections will be posted to the news in the appropriate
    groups.

If you would like to found out more, or would like to be on the list of those
that are interested in the collection, or if you have anything you would like
to see or add to the CD, then email me on :
