EMULATORS (1)
IRC notes...
This page is dedicated to software emulators running on PC's (IBM compatibles). Due to limited
server space NO software will be provided. Links to appropriate sites will however be
established. You may think of this page as of a META-emulator page, nothing but links
and some information will be provided.
Some emulators I like a lot, some others are just here for completeness (there will probbably never
be a complete list of available emulators, they just pop up everywhere nowadays).
I will only include emulators that work on my system. That possibly will exclude emulators running
under an OS other than Linux, DOS, and this graphical monster. (but as a matter of fact I don't know
of any emulator running under another OS on a PC).
I do realise that the contents of this page is partly covered by the emulators-faq,
that's ok with me (that FAQ is pretty good, but not allways up to date). I don't want to create a huge beast like that one. This page is partly intended
for myself, to do some quick lookups at certain interesting sites, on the other hand to give others
the information I've collected. I do intend to put some material on this page that is
not covered by that FAQ.
I don't know now how frequently I will be updating this page in the future, I will try to
provide direct links to the software, but with rapidly changing version numbers one never knows
how long the link will be relevant. In addition I will provide links to appropriate
homepages/ftp-sites.
One other thing. There are people out there writting highly portable emulators. These emulators
are very soon after completition ported to various other system. Some by their author, some by talented
other people. I don't want to discredit anyone by not mentioning every name related to every emulator.
This page is intended to give information about emulators, not about people who are writing or porting them.
I hope you people don't mind if I only mention some of you. I really don't mean to
discredit your work, it's just that people get burried under names and links
if I mention you all.
Most often links to homepages and the like will be provided, people looking for information who
has done the programming will find your name, I'm quite confident of that.
My absolute favourite one NOW:
My personal favourites are:
Other really great ones:
- Commodore 64 emulator PC64 (DOS)
- Apple emulator APPLE PC (DOS)
- Coleco emulator COLEM (DOS)

Emulators-FAQ
The newest version of the emulators-faq may be found at rtfm.mit.edu/pub/usenet/news.answers/emulators-faq.
Or via link try the following:
There is also a HTML version (which is uptodate! -sorry I wronged you Adam):
Naturally there are many places to visit, one fine place for example is
Marat's Computer Corner (it's
not really up to date, but then which page is?).
Another page related to Marat's emulator fascination is
http://www.komkon.com/pub/emul8/
which has a small collection of 8 bit computers (video games).
NEW It seems emulator pages are quite modern, yet another page...
http://www.nfinity.com/~swhalen/node99/index.html a mainly console oriented page, most of the time UP TO DATE!!!
http://www.telecall.co.uk/~gavinlew/emulator.html
Or try the follwing one, was not up to date the last time I checked,
but it shows some promise...
and another...
In this document you will find many links. Most of them are directly related to
emulation and/or to the computer they are associated with. Just keep 'surfing' thru this doc, I'm
sure by following every link on every page (and so forth) you will be occupied quite a while and
will get much information about emulators and classical computers and games.

Another computer I don't know much of. I tell you what I found, OK?
There is a FAQ about it though, in case you don't know either and want to
learn more about it. It can be found

There is a ZX 81 FAQ at http://www.gre.ac.uk/~bm10/zx81.faq.
Or try

a hypertext version as well,

There are only two known emulators for PC compatible computers:

It can be found at
ftp://oak.oakland.edu/SimTel/msdos/emulator/ts1000-c.zip.
I didn't dig to deeply in the pool of information, concerning one of the smallest
computers. I collected a few interesting pages related to the subject. I'm sure you will
find much information if you follow them:
There used to be a ZX81 homepage at:
A new one is accessable at:

Another good page for sinclair related stuff is the following:

TRS 80
There is a TRS 80 Homepage at
http://www.kjsl.com/trs80, much information
and other interesting links can be found there.
An TRS80 emulation homepage appeared recently (or was discovered):
http://members.aol.com/trs80emul.
These are the known emulators for PCs.
- XTRS (Linux)
That's what the documentation says:
XTRS

If you have Internet access, you can get a copy of the latest xtrs software

TRS-80 Model III
Emulator Version 1.0 (BETA RELEASE).
Written by Vincent Van Den Berghe and placed into public domain
(for now). The files are dated 1992. I don't know where it can be downloaded, I got my version
of Paul, if anybody knows of a site where it can be found, please tell me so and I'll put a link
here.
Well, nobody told me, but I found a copy at the above mentioned page:
http://members.aol.com/trs80emul/Trs80.zip.
TRS-80 Model III simulator
The following is taken from the readme file:
This is a simple TRS-80 Model III simulator written by George Phillips.
It does a minimal simulation providing you a
TRS-80 with keyboard, display and sound. It has a limited ability
to save data but most certainly doesn't simulate a disk drive. A
10 MHz 80286 is fast enough to do real-time emulation. You only
need CGA or Hercules graphics.
The files are all from about 1993. I didn't try it yet, so I can't give any information about its performance.
(It is supposed to be able to emulate a Model I as well though).
Try it:
http://members.aol.com/trs80emul/Trs80-10.zip.
Something else to say:
Jeff Vavasour Also did a Model III emulator which is not shareware.
You can contact him at the above address and ask about it.

CP/M
I'm not really interested in CP/M emulation. We used to have a CP/M computer
at school, but it wasn't really a machine that could catch my interest. I
include it in this list because I found some emulations, I'll just give a list,
nothing more, I didn't even try them yet (aren't MSX computers supposed to run
CP/M too? What about C128 (VICE)?).
All I know about it, is that it used to run on Z80 processors and that it is
somekind of 'father' to (MS) DOS (not the company that is, but there are some
really old routines left in the 'kernel' (interrupts that is, hardly can call that a kernel)...).
For some other information about CP/M emulation look at the
Emulators FAQ.
(There is a comp.os.cpm FAQ available too, but I didn't bother to look for a link,
anybody interested?)
