EMULATORS (5)
Flex
Win95 FLEX Emulation System version 1.33.
Written by Ben Williams.
This one is more like an operating system emulation, but since I don't know for sure,
I'll keep my mouth shut and let the author do some explaining...
(from the readme...)
What is this?
-------------
The package is a complete emulation of a 6809 processor based system,
running the TSC Flex operating system over the Percom PSYMON monitor "ROM"
with a useful command extension set. It runs under Win95. On a modern PC
(Pentium, 60 mhz or better) the emulator is faster than the original
computer system was.
Flex is a small (8k!) disk operating system (DOS) which, along with CP/M and
a few others, truly pioneered small "personal" computers. These were the
systems that were in place when Apple Computer started in a garage.

ZX Spectrum
As for C64's and Apple II's there exists a wild
assortment of spectrum emulators. This one really never was (and never will be) a computer
a liked. (yuk those rubber 'keys', this charset-type-of-graphic...)
As with many other emulators I will only tell what I've got and let it rest in peace... .
Preface:
Paul didn't like the ordering of my Spectrum emulators (can't really blame him, there is no known order :-)
(except Linux/UNIX<->DOS)).
He wanted to have them ordered after there importance (quality), I don't want be the one to tell you which one is
best, second and so forth. So in order to please him I'll put his favourites into a preface... ;-).
(email, translated...)
... there are just 3 DOS-emulators, which are in some way useful:
-Z80 by Gerton Lunter, the mostly used one
shareware, about 15/20 pounds, payable to
Brian Gaff (not the author!), his address can be found in the
docs. The unpayed shareware version is usefull too,
there are some restrictions though (most important:
TAP-files are supported, but no VOC-Files, and some games
with curious Tape-loaders have to be loaded as VOC-Files)
It emulates both a 48k and a 128k spectrum
-Warajevo: nearly as good as Z80, emulates both a 48K and
a 128K spectrum, freeware
-ZX Spectrum by Pedro Gimeno - emulates only a 48k, otherwise
it's quite good
- X 128 (DOS, Linux (UNIX)(Xwindows))
Version 0.5 spectrum 128 emulator, Copyright (C) 1996 James McKay com40014@paisley.ac.uk (until June/July).
The author now has a homepage available, but he states he doesn't know how long it will last...

obscure (for me anyway) language (probably russian).

WSpecEm (Mikrosoft Windows Spectrum Emulator)
Version 1.13.
Written by Rui Fernando Ferreira Ribeiro (email till until mid-end of June 1996) or
a second email address
Rui Fernando Ferreira Ribeiro
(both emails address subject to change after 1996).
I won't say this emulator is best, since it isn't (some not as yet implemented features),
but due to it being a windows program it is most easily handled, and I like that it is released
under the GNU terms (including source that is). So this one is my favourite spectrum emulator yet.
It supports a wide range of spectrum snapshot/tape formats (ACH, BLK, PRG, SCR, SIT, SLT, SP, SNA, SNX, RAW, TAP, Z80).
Sound support is in need of improvement though. (so is hardware support, high resolution...)
This emulator is released under GNU public licence, the author would appreciate a postcard
however, since he seems to collect them, so here is (are) the relevant adress('):
My address in Portugal is:

The original page is not available any more, it can now be found (amongst others) at Ian's page:
http://users.ox.ac.uk/~uzdm0006/Damien/speccy/index.html
which is a really exellent page (mentioned again a few line further down ;-)).
Note, the emulators faq mentions one other DOS emulator, a polish one (Elwro 800-3 Jr),
I haven't been able to track that one down yet.
There is (at least one) spectrum FAQ available at:

ABC 80
Emulators keep popping up. Ever heard of ABC 80? NO, me neither.
It's (note from the author)
...an emulator for an old swedish school-computer called ABC80?
It's a Z80-machine with ugly graphics and no colors, but it was the
first computer I worked with, so...
The emulator is built around a Z80-emulator I found somewhere, rehacked
lots of times and eventually translated into assembler. Runs under DOS.
You find it at my homepage: http://www.lysator.liu.se/~exon
Or try a download via link:

PC9801
More a rumor than something else, can't get it to work (you were right PANX :-)).
Here the newsgroup posting:
Thema: PC9801 Emulator
Von: ... (PaNX)
Datum: 25 May 1996 18:03:44 -0500
the PC9801 Emulator is on
wuarchive.wustl.edu:/.archive01/pub/MSDOS_UPLOADS/pc98
but i wouldnt expect it'll be there 4ever cuz the site is cleared from
time to time... (ohhh, btw. if u dont know what pc98 is dont d/l the
file, the docs are in japaneese:)
PaNX
Well the above site certainly doesn't contain the emulator anymore.
I spotted an update to the above emulator. But I think the link is gone by
now too. I'll place it here anyway, perhaps someone will be able
to get the file via some weird search machine...

BK11M
Ooops! Guess I should stop this page soon, there is lately a steady stream of
emulators I never heard of. Possibly I haven't been that interrested in computers
after all!
BK 11 M Version 1.02, Copyright (c) 1995 by Vicious.
Well, Vicious isn't saying that much to me. Since the docs are in Russian I
can't argue about that. Though I did find an email address, I don't know who else's
address could be ment (since it came with a fido address from Russia).
So this might be the author: Alex Shmelev.
I 'discovered' it (after some hint of Marat), at his ftp site (ftp://altair.komkon.com/pub/BK0010/)
(BTW: don't know why the DIR is called 'BK0010' but there might be some reason :-)).
Try a download from there or via link:
(the second file is a system disk, you might need it if you want to try it...)
What is this one anyway?
Better ask Marat, he seems to know...
It looks like sort of russian PC/C64 clone.
The emulator seems to be fairly well done, it works under DOS or Windows95 Dos prompt (which I tried).
It emulates graphic modes and sound. Though I deemed it to be a bit fast.

Oric
Not much is known about this computer. But there are people who are actively involved with
it. There are emulators for DOS and LINUX. You can look at the
EUPHORIC homepage,
or just try to download them directly (via link):
I think there is a new version available. I don't really get the meaning of the homepage
at that point. There are file labeled 0.97 or so. Somewhere else is an update file.
I don't really know which belongs to which. Look at the above homepage yourself.
I located another page though which has an euphoric version 0.98 though. Here is
a link to the file:
http://www.algonet.se/~alexand/oric098.zip (DOS)
NEW
The homepage has a even newer version now. It seems to be updated fairly often at this time,
obviously going towards a final release version 1.0. Look at the homepage for further information...
If you own software for an oric computer, and you are not able to transfer it to your PC by yourself,
» you may download it there.
At http://www.ensica.fr/~frances/oric/bruno/index.html there is a software archive
for Oric stuff, but again, only for those people owning the games...
There is one other UNIX/Linux version called ORIC48K.
That version is written by JF FABRE.
Another nice page to visit: http://www.algonet.se/%7Ehakan_k/
and not to forget... :

There is also a newsgroup available...
